Once you successfully complete your CNA training program you will be able to sign up for the competency exam. The competency exam is set up by Pearson VUE and is composed of both a multiple choice section and a hands-on skill demonstration. Upon passing both parts of the competency exam you are eligible to be listed in the state Nurse Aid Registry, which is required to work in the state of North Carolina as a CNA.
Renewing Your Certification
Your CNA certification must be renewed every 2 years (24 months) to remain active. It is required that you must perform CNA duties for at least 8 hours in the 24 month span in a qualified health care setting such as a hospital or nursing home. Those 8 hours of work must be for monetary pay and must be supervised by a registered nurse.
